To disassemble the inner CV joint and boot, start by removing the CV joint from the vehicle and mounting it in a vise. Pry the boot clamp retaining tabs up with a small screwdriver and slide the clamps off the boot. On certain models, slide the boot back and pry the wire ring ball retainer from the outer race. Pull the outer race off the inner bearing assembly and remove the snap-ring from the axleshaft. Mark the inner race and cage for reassembly. Slide the inner bearing assembly off the axleshaft and pry the balls from the cage. Align the inner race lands with the cage windows and remove the inner race from the cage. To inspect the components, clean them with solvent and check for wear, damage, and pitting. To reassemble, insert the inner race into the cage and press the balls into the cage windows. Wrap the axleshaft splines with tape and slide the small boot clamp and boot onto the axleshaft. Install the inner bearing assembly with the marked side facing the axleshaft end and secure the snap-ring. Fill the outer race and boot with CV joint grease and pack the inner race and cage assembly with grease. Slide the outer race over the inner bearing assembly and wipe any excess grease. Seat the boot on the axleshaft and equalize the pressure inside the boot. Install the boot clamps and a new circlip on the inner CV joint stub axle. Finally, reinstall the CV joint. To disassemble the outer CV joint and boot, follow the same steps as for the inner CV joint. If servicing the left CV joint outer CV joint, mark the position of the dynamic damper and remove it. Remove the outer CV joint boot clamps and slide the boot off the axleshaft. Thoroughly wash the inner and outer CV joints and inspect the bearing surfaces for wear and damage. Reassemble by sliding the new outer boot onto the CV joint, adding grease to the outer joint and boot, and installing the new clamps. If necessary, reinstall the dynamic damper and proceed to clean and reassemble the inner CV joint. Finally, install the CV joint.
