Return-type fuel systems from 1999 through 2005 models require several steps for removal and installation. First, relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Then, disconnect the vacuum hose and detach the fuel return line from the fuel pressure regulator. Remove the regulator from the fuel rail by removing the bolts. If reusing the same regulator, check the condition of the O-ring and replace if necessary. For returnless fuel systems in 2006 and later models, the fuel pressure regulator is part of the fuel pump assembly, which also includes the pump, fuel level sender, filter, and pressure regulator. Currently, the fuel pressure regulator is not available separately, so the entire fuel pump assembly needs to be replaced. Check with your local auto parts store or dealer parts department for any updates on the availability of the pressure regulator as a separate component.
