To remove the turbocharger, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield fasteners and the shield itself. Disconnect and remove the front portion of the exhaust system. Remove the subframe. Clamp-off and disconnect the turbocharger water supply hose and drain hose from the thermostat housing. Remove the turbocharger support bracket from the bottom of the turbocharger and disconnect the oil drain pipe. Discard the gasket. Disconnect and remove the turbocharger oil feed and drain pipe. Remove the exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head nuts. Carefully maneuver the exhaust manifold/turbocharger out of the engine compartment. Remove and discard the exhaust manifold gasket. To install the turbocharger, start by installing new O-rings to the oil feed and drain pipes. Clean the mating surfaces of the turbocharger and exhaust manifold. Place the manifold/turbocharger in position on the manifold studs. Apply anti-seize compound to the studs and install the nuts. Tighten the nuts. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Finally, change the engine oil and filter.
