  A: If you suspect insufficient fuel delivery, check the following items first. Check the battery and make sure it's fully charged. Check the fuel pump fuse. Check the fuel filter for restriction. Inspect all fuel lines to ensure that the problem is not simply a leak in a line. Place the transmission in Park (automatic) or neutral (manual) and apply the parking brake. Have an assistant cycle the ignition key On and Off several times while you listen for the sound of the fuel pump operating inside the fuel tank. Remove the rear seat cushion and the fuel pump access cover and then listen to, or feel the top of, the fuel pump module. You should hear a "whirring" sound, indicating that the fuel pump is operating. If the fuel pump is operating, proceed to the pressure check. If there is no sound from the pump, disconnect the fuel pump check connector and power up the fuel pump using a jumper cable. The pump should operate. If it doesn't, check the fuel pump circuit, related fuses, fuel pump relay, and related wiring to ensure power is reaching the fuel pump connector. Check the ground circuit for continuity. If the power and ground circuits are good and the fuel pump does not operate, remove the fuel pump and check for open circuits in the fuel pump module wiring and connectors. If the wiring and connectors are good, replace the fuel pump. To perform a pressure check, relieve the system fuel pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable. On 2012 and earlier models, reconnect the fuel pump connector. On 2014 and later models, reinstall the fuel pump fuse. For 2000 and earlier models, locate the fuel filter and remove the cable tie that attaches the fuel pressure line to the fuel return line. Unplug the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector from the master cylinder. Put a shop rag around the fuel line retaining bolt on top of the fuel filter and then remove the bolt and disconnect the fuel line from the filter. Connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel filter in place of the fuel line. For 2001 and later models, use the proper adapters to connect the fuel pressure gauge to the Fuel Rail. Reconnect the negative battery cable, start the engine, and check for leaks. Measure the fuel pressure and compare it to the specified measurement. Disconnect the vacuum line from the Fuel Pressure Regulator - the fuel pressure should immediately increase. Measure the fuel pressure again and compare it to the specified measurement.

  A: To remove the fuel pump, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the intercooler inlet hose and pipe on 1.4L and 1.6L models, or the air filter assembly and air inlet duct on 2.0L models. Take off the foam sound cover from the pump and disconnect the fuel pressure control valve electrical connector. Lift the plastic clamp cover from the low-pressure fuel inlet line and disconnect the fuel line quick-connect fitting. Loosen and disconnect the high-pressure feed pipe fittings using a flare-nut wrench. Disconnect the electrical connector from the engine coolant temperature sensor and remove the high-pressure feed line bracket bolt(s). Loosen the high-pressure fuel pump bolts and remove the pump, making sure to replace the bolts and O-ring. Remove the pump roller from the pump bore in the valve head cover and check it for smooth operation. To install the pump, make sure the camshaft lobe is at its base circle and lubricate the pump roller with engine oil. Align the tab on the roller body with the groove in the bore of the valve cover and install the roller. Lubricate the pump O-ring and set the pump onto the valve cover, then tighten the bolts alternately and evenly until the pump is seated. Finally, reconnect the electrical connector to the high-pressure pump, install the fuel pump fuse, and reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

  A: Some models are equipped with an anti-theft radio. Before performing a procedure that requires disconnecting the battery, make sure you have the activation code. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the rear seat cushion to access the fuel pump service cover, then remove the cover screws and cover. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump/fuel sending unit. Remove the fuel high pressure line flange bolt and loosen the fuel return hose clamp, then disconnect both the line and the hose. Disconnect the pressure hose and the fuel return hose from the fuel pump. On later models, disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector, the fuel tank pressure sensor connector, and release the fuel line and vapor line from the top of the module. On 2006 and earlier models, remove the mounting flange screws. On 2007 and later models, use a hammer and a brass drift to tap the retaining ring counterclockwise to loosen it. Lift the fuel pump and the fuel level sending unit as a single assembly or module from the tank. For 2010 and earlier models, separate the fuel pump and the fuel level sending unit. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2011 and later models, remove the fuel pump module. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bottom side of the module top. Disengage the retaining hooks and lift the module top off the lower half of the module and disconnect the quick-connect fitting from the fuel pump, then remove the top from the lower half of the module. Press the fuel sender retaining clip inwards then slide the sender down (2011 through 2016 models) or up (2017 and later models) the side of the module. Disengage the three retaining hooks and lower the reservoir cup from the module. Disconnect the ground connector on the side of the module. Disengage the three retaining hooks and pull the filter (fuel sock) off of the fuel pump inlet. On all but 1.4L models, disengage the retaining hooks and pull the filter and regulator unit from the bottom of the module. Pull the fuel pump straight down and out from the module body. To replace the pressure regulator, pull the regulator out from the regulator module body or filter unit. Replace the O-rings on the regulator if it is removed. Installation is the reverse of removal.
