  Q: How to remove and install a control panel in a Hyundai Excel?

  A: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the center trim bezel surrounding the control assembly. Remove the glove compartment and the covers on the sides of the console under the dash. Disconnect the control cables at the ends opposite from the control by detaching the cable clamps and separating the cables from the pins on the operating levers. Remove the control mounting screws. On the vacuum rotary switch controls, detach the vacuum tubes. Mark them to ensure correct reassembly. On 2012 and later models, remove the radio. Use a trim tool to pry the control panel off of the instrument panel and disconnect the electrical connectors. Carefully remove the unit from the dash. Installation is the reverse of removal. For cable adjustment, set the control to defrost, move the lever all the way back, connect the cable to the lever and reinstall the clamp. For fresh-recirc cable adjustment, set the control in the outside-air position, move the lever all the way back, connect the cable to the lever and reinstall the clamp. For temperature control cable adjustment, set the control to the left position, move the water valve lever to the highest position, connect the cable to the lever and reinstall the clamp. For air mix cable adjustment on 1990 and later models, set the air mix control lever or rotary knob to the HOT position, pry off the cable clip and disconnect the end of the wire from the control mechanism. When installing the cable, make sure that the control lever or knob is still in the full HOT position. Rotate the air mix door shaft to the left and connect the cable. Slide the cable housing back to remove the slack and connect the cable housing to the clamp.
