Q:
How to verify and clean the throttle cable and throttle body on Hyundai Sonata? Posted by Customer
A:
On 1999 through 2005 models, verify that the throttle cable operates smoothly. Remove the air intake duct from the throttle body and check for carbon and residue build-up. If it is dirty, clean it with aerosol carburetor/throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush. Caution: Do not clean the Throttle Position (TP) sensor or the Idle Speed Actuator (ISA) valve with the solvent. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the air intake duct. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Throttle Position (TP) sensor on 1999 through 2005 models. On later models, disconnect the main wiring harness. Disconnect the wiring from the throttle control motor on 2006 and later models. Disconnect the accelerator cable/cruise control cable from the throttle body on 1999 through 2005 models. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the throttle body. Clamp off and disconnect the coolant hoses to the throttle body to minimize coolant loss. Remove the throttle body mounting fasteners and remove the throttle body. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the throttle body. Remove and discard the old throttle body gasket. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the throttle body mounting nuts. Check the coolant level, adding as necessary.
