Q:
How to replace the condenser on a Hyundai Sonata's air conditioning system? Posted by Customer
A:
On early models, the receiver/drier should be replaced whenever the condenser is replaced. On later models it is a component of the condenser assembly. Have the refrigerant discharged by an air conditioning technician. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. On 2006 and later models, remove the air inlet duct. On 2011 and later models, remove the front bumper cover. Remove the upper radiator brackets. On 2005 and earlier models the lower fan bolts have to be removed also. Pull the radiator rearward for access to the condenser. Disconnect the inlet and outlet fittings. Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture and dirt out of the system. Remove the mounting fasteners. Push the radiator back toward the engine, then push the condenser rearward until it's free of the radiator support and can be pulled up and out of the vehicle. Install the condenser, brackets and bolts, making sure the rubber cushions fit on the mounting points properly. Reconnect the refrigerant lines, using new 0-rings. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
