These engines use a one-piece main bearing cap assembly called the lower crankcase instead of individual main bearing caps. In 1.4L and 1.6L engines, a ladder frame or lower crankcase must be removed to access the main bearing caps.

Inspect the crankshaft sensor wheel at the rear of the crankshaft for cracks, wear, and any other damage. If the sensor wheel is damaged, replace it, as damage to this component can result in severe driveability problems. To remove the sensor wheel from the crankshaft, remove the three retaining screws, and ensure to tighten the retaining screws when installing the sensor wheel.
