Q:
How to replace the receiver/drier in Hyundai Sonata? Posted by Customer
A:
Early models use an A/C accumulator that is replaceable. All later vehicles have an A/C accumulator that's a part of the condenser and is not serviceable by itself. To replace the A/C accumulator on early models, the refrigerant must be discharged by a certified air conditioning technician. Then, the tube must be disconnected from each end of the A/C accumulator, and the A/C accumulator can be removed from the end of the condenser. 40 cc of refrigerant oil should be added to the system before mounting the new A/C accumulator to the condenser. The O-rings on the tubes should be replaced with new ones, lubricated with R-134a-compatible oil, and tightened securely. For late models with the A/C accumulator as part of the condenser assembly, the condenser must be removed from the vehicle. The bottom cap of the A/C accumulator should be detached using an Allen wrench, and the desiccant can be removed with needle-nose pliers. When installing the new desiccant, new O-rings and a new bottom cap should be used, with lubrication of the O-rings using R-134a-compatible refrigerant oil. Finally, for all models, the installation is the reverse of removal, and the system should be evacuated, charged, and leak tested by a professional technician.
