    How can noisy valve lifters be checked for wear without disassembling the engine for the 2015 Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer

    1. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. 2. Remove the valve cover. 3. Rotate the engine until the No.1 piston is at TDC. 4. Use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the camshaft lobe and the lifter. If it exceeds 0.008 inch, the lifter or camshaft lobe is worn. 5. If no clearance exists, depress the lifter to bleed it down and check again. 6. Check lifter clearance on remaining cylinders by following the firing order and positioning each piston at TDC. 7. If clearance exceeds the maximum allowed, inspect the camshaft. 8. If the camshaft is OK, the lifters are faulty and must be replaced.
