The hood is awkward to remove and install, so at least two people should perform this procedure. Begin by opening the hood and placing blankets or pads over the fenders and cowl area to protect the body and paint during the lift. Disconnect the windshield washer tubing. For models from 2006 or later, use a small screwdriver to pull out the release clip on the hood support strut and disconnect the upper part of the strut from the hood. Make marks around the hood hinges to ensure proper alignment during reinstallation. With an assistant supporting one side of the hood, take turns removing the hinge-to-hood bolts and lift off the hood. Installation is the reverse of removal, aligning the hinge bolts with the previously made marks. For adjustment, move the hood in the hinge plate slots after loosening the bolts to achieve fore-and-aft and side-to-side alignment, marking around the hinge plate to track movement. After adjusting, retighten the hinge bolts and lower the hood to check its position. If necessary, adjust the entire hood latch assembly up and down or side to side on the radiator support for a secure and flush closure with the fenders, marking around the latch mounting bolts for reference before repositioning. Finally, adjust the hood bumpers at the front so that when closed, the hood is flush with the fenders, rotating each edge cushion as needed. The hood latch assembly and hinges should be periodically lubricated with white lithium-base grease to prevent binding and wear.
