Q:
How to remove and install a radiator and coolant reservoir? Posted by Customer
A:
Non-toxic coolant can be purchased at local auto parts stores. However, it is important to properly dispose of used coolant. To remove the radiator, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and removing the engine splash shield(s) and any engine covers. Disconnect the wiring to the fan motor(s) and drain the cooling system. Detach the upper and lower radiator hoses and the reservoir hose. If your vehicle has automatic transaxles, disconnect the transaxle oil cooler hoses. Remove the radiator top mounting brackets and carefully remove the radiator and fan(s) as an assembly. Remove the cooling fan(s) from the radiator and separate the condenser from the radiator if necessary. Inspect the radiator for leaks, damage, and blockage. Clean the radiator with compressed air and a soft brush. To install the radiator, ensure the rubber mounts are correctly in place. Fill the cooling system with the proper mixture of antifreeze and water. Start the engine and check for leaks, then check the coolant level and add more if needed. Don't forget to check the automatic transaxle fluid level and add fluid if necessary. The coolant reservoir is fastened to the fenderwell. Pinch the hose connecting the reservoir to the radiator and disconnect it. Remove the mounting fasteners and lift the reservoir out. Pour any remaining coolant into a container and inspect the reservoir for damage. Replace it if necessary. To reinstall the reservoir, follow the reverse of the removal procedure and refill it to the lower level line.
