Remove the air filter housing and air inlet duct. Remove the battery and battery tray. Remove the PCM. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the lower splash shield. Drain the engine coolant. Working on top of the engine, disconnect the intercooler inlet hose clamps and separate the hose from the turbocharger. Working under the vehicle, disconnect the intercooler inlet hose clamps and separate the hose from the intercooler. Remove the intercooler inlet pipe-to-oil pan mounting bolts and remove the inlet pipe from the vehicle. On 1.6L models, disconnect the oxygen sensor to the front exhaust pipe, then remove the flange nuts and remove the front exhaust pipe. Disconnect the electrical connectors around the exhaust manifold and remove any of the wiring harness retainers, then move the harness out of the way. Remove the oxygen sensor, then remove the turbocharger heat shield. On 1.6L models, disconnect the electrical connector from the waste gate actuator. On 1.6L models, remove the intake pipe support bracket bolts, then remove the intake pipe mounting bolts and remove the intake pipe from the inlet side of the turbocharger. Remove the coolant drain pipe banjo bolt and mounting bolts, then remove the pipe. Be sure to obtain new copper washers for installation. Remove the catalytic converter brackets and driveaxle heat shield, then remove the catalytic converter nuts and slide the converter off of the turbocharger studs. Be sure to replace the converter gasket with a new one. Remove the turbocharger oil feed pipe banjo and mounting bolts and remove the pipe. Be sure to replace the copper washers. Remove the coolant pipe banjo bolts and mounting bolt, then remove the pipe. Be sure to replace the copper washers. Remove the turbocharger heat protector bolts the protector. Remove the oil drain pipe mounting bolts and gaskets. On 1.6L models, remove the support bracket bolts and bracket directly below the turbocharger. On 1.4L models, remove the turbo­charger assembly mounting nuts, carefully slide the turbocharger assembly off of the cylinder head studs, then remove the gasket. Clean the mounting surface of the cylinder head, then install a new gasket. Install the turbocharger assembly and tighten the mounting nuts to the torque. Remaining installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system.
