Make sure to obtain the activation code before one disconnects the battery because some models have anti-theft radios. Disconnection of a battery may lead to drivability issues. Inspect the battery cables for damage, cracked insulation and corrosion regularly. Check for cracks, loose wire strands and corrosion in cable-to-terminal connections. Replace any cables whose insulation has white fluffy deposits beneath it or terminals that are distorted. When removing the cables, always disconnect the negative cable first and reconnect it last to avoid shorting the battery. Disconnect the old cables from both ends at the other end of each cable and also at the battery. If you choose to replace them, take them along when you go shopping for same parts. Clean threads of either starting solenoid or ground contact points and apply an inhibitor on corroding them. Attach a cable to a terminal tightly fitting its mounting nut/bolt correctly. Finally ensure that there is no stretching while connecting new cable post with its positive batter. Lastly connect negative cable to negative battery post.
