All models are equipped with a one-piece rear
Crankshaft seal. The 1998 and earlier 1.8L and 2012 and earlier 2.0L models utilize a crankshaft rear seal housing that is bolted to the rear of the cylinder block. In contrast, the 1.4L, 1.6L, 2011 and later 1.8L, and 2014 and later 2.0L engines have the seal pressed directly into the cylinder block and the lower crankcase. It is essential to install the crankshaft and main bearing caps first, along with the lower crankcase or ladder frame for the specified models, before proceeding with the installation of the seal or seal and housing, ensuring that the oil pan is not yet installed.
