A: To check the fuel level sensor, first, remove the Fuel Pump/fuel level sensor assembly. Connect the ohmmeter probes to the fuel level sensor terminals of the fuel pump module electrical connector. With the float in the down (empty) position, note the ohmmeter reading. Move the float up to the full position while observing the ohmmeter. If the fuel level sensor resistance doesn't smoothly change from empty to full, it should be replaced. For replacement on 2010 and earlier models, if not already done, remove the fuel pump/fuel level sensor. Separate the fuel level sensor from the fuel pump, which involves disconnecting the electrical connector, loosening hose clamps, removing hoses, rubber isolator, sock support, and sock retainer. Reassemble these components. For 2011 and later models, remove the fuel pump module. Disconnect the electrical connector from the module top's bottom side, lift off the module top by disengaging retaining hooks, disconnect the quick-connect fitting to the fuel pump, and separate the module top from the lower half of the module. Press the fuel sender retaining clip inwards and slide the sender down (2011-2016 models) or up (2017 and later models) the module's side. To complete the replacement, follow the reverse steps of removal.
