Hyundai Excel Horn

The Hyundai Excel Horn is the audible guardian of the car. Its piercing beep cuts through traffic to warn drivers and pedestrians before danger can occur. Mounted at the front grille, the Horn depends on a small electromagnetic coil that energizes a thin metal diaphragm. When the driver presses down on the steering wheel pad, current flows, the diaphragm vibrates rapidly, and sound bursts forth almost instantly. Early generations of Excel applied a deeper honking from slightly larger diaphragms, but more recent models use a more compact model producing the familiar crisp beep. Both of these have the same coil plus diaphragm principle within the same Hyundai product line. This Horn assembly is small and closed off from the effects of moisture. Keeping the Horn in operating condition is a necessity, for the wavering note is generally a sign of diaphragm fatigue, while total silence is often a sign of a failed coil or a break in the cable that transmits the switch signal. Regular visual checks of the wiring and mounting bracket enable drivers to detect wear before performance drops. Throughout its years of manufacture, Hyundai ensured that access was kept relatively simple so that an Excel owner can quickly replace a faulty Horn, keeping the vehicle compliant with road safety laws and confidently heard on busy streets.

Hyundai Excel Horn Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to locate and remove the horn in Hyundai Excel?
    A:
The horn is located in front of the radiator for 2011 and earlier models, while for 2012 and later models, it is found in the lower left corner of the vehicle, ahead of the left front wheel well. For 2011 and earlier models, begin by opening the hood, then disconnect the horn electrical connector, unbolt the horn, and remove it from the radiator support. For models from 2006 to 2011, the front grille must be removed before disconnecting the horn electrical connector, unbolting the horn, and taking it out. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. For 2012 and later models, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the driver's side inner fender well liner, disconnect the horn electrical connector, remove the horn mounting bolt, and take out the horn. Installation is again the reverse of removal.
