Hyundai Santa Fe ABS Sensor
The Hyundai Santa Fe ABS Sensor is responsible for monitoring the speed of each wheel so the computer can adjust the brake pressure and prevent the wheels from locking when hard stopping. Sitting next to a toothed ring on the hub or axle, the ABS Sensor produces a voltage signal whenever changing magnetic fields manifest themselves as the ring spins. This information is applied by the controller to pulse valves and pumps, alleviating hydraulic force on a tire that slows down faster than the rest and keeping the vehicle under control. Early Santa Fe models and later generations have this magnetic pickup principle in common, but there are two sensing styles. One uses a permanent magnet and coil combination, and the other uses a magnet and a Hall effect chip combination. The latter provides a cleaner digital signal and is more resistant to electrical noise. For both configurations, the ABS Sensor may be less accurate at very low speeds due to weaker field changes at lower rotation, but accuracy is regained as speed increases. Should the ABS warning lamp glow, the Santa Fe will still stop with normal hydraulic action, but the added safety provided by the ABS Sensor disappears until the fault is fixed.
