To remove the steering column, park the vehicle with the wheels straight and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Next, remove the
Steering Wheel and turn the ignition key to the LOCK position to prevent the steering shaft from turning, as failure to do so may damage the airbag clockspring. Then, take off the upper and lower covers of the steering column, disconnect the wiring, and remove the multi-function switch along with the switch from the left end of the knee bolster. After that, remove the knee bolster and disconnect any interfering wing while unbolting the knee bolster reinforcement for access to the steering shaft universal joint. Mark the position of the universal joint at the steering gear pinion shaft, unscrew the steering shaft-to-universal joint pinch bolt while making alignment marks for the orientation of the steering shaft, and then unscrew the mounting bolts to remove the steering column and shaft. For installation, guide the steering column into position, connect the intermediate shaft, and install the connecting fasteners without tightening them yet. Tighten the column mounting fasteners to the specified torque, install the pinch bolt, tightening it to the required torque, and complete the installation by reversing the removal steps.
