Unplug the battery lead from the negative post. Remove the drivebelt. Getting to the alternator on these models is hard, and you'll need to remove multiple parts like the engine splash shield. What parts you'll need to remove varies by specific model year. Take out cables from the alternator and air conditioning compressor parts, and push aside the wiring harness. To work on the 2011 and later 2.4-liter engines, we need to take out both the Variable Intake Solenoid actuator and valve. Disconnect the holding screws and simply lift the alternator free of its position. Make sure to show the old alternator when you buy a new one to guarantee the parts match exactly. Ask at the shop if they'll move the missing pulley from your old alternator to your replacement. Installation is the reverse of removal. Check twice: After installing the new alternator, fix the belt tension and measure the battery charge to make sure everything works correctly.
