    Q:
How to replace a worn out ball joint on Hyundai Accent? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the worn out ball joint, first lift up the vehicle and support it on jack stands. Look at the rubber boot for any cuts, tears or leaking of grease. If either of these conditions have been met then change the ball joint. Next, place a large pry bar under the ball joint and lift up then push down between steering knuckle and lower arm in order to determine if there's any movement or looseness in it. If you feel some movement, this means that your balljoint is worn out. Another way to test involves having another person shake the tire in an in-and-out motion while you check for looseness in the balljoint stud nut as it was mentioned above. If there's any play here, suspect a worn out stud or a widened hole where it passes through the steering knuckle boss; which requires replacing both parts. In this case, replace also the steering knuckle along with the old balljoint. For 1986 through 1994 models: Loosen wheel lug nuts; Raise vehicle; Remove wheel; Brake loose ball joint to lower arm bolts but don't remove them yet; Loosen ball joint stud nut and separate this part from steering knuckle with a special tool called "balljoint separator"; Unbolt nuts and unscrew screws of two bolts holding together a lower arm assembly with one part known as "ball joint"; Install new unit by placing itself onto lowr arm upper side attaching by means of threading two bolts from below until tightened (not too tight); Put balance rod end back into its bearing race again tightening up only after making sure everything has been done properly); Finally tighten all other points which are connected using right torque figures supplied by manufacturer". For 1986 through 1994 models: Loose tire lug nuts after lifting vehicle up and taking off wheels; Those who want their cars fixed should turn attention on how much oil leaked outside among other things like presence aforementioned symptoms such as those mentioned above suggesting it's time change worn out ball joint; For 1986 through 1994 models: Loosen wheel lug nuts; Raise vehicle; Remove wheel; Brake loose ball joint to lower arm bolts but don't remove them yet; Loosen ball joint stud nut and separate this part from steering knuckle with a special tool called "balljoint separator"; Unbolt nuts and unscrew screws of two bolts holding together a lower arm assembly with one part known as "ball joint"; Install new unit by placing itself onto lowr arm upper side attaching by means of threading two bolts from below until tightened (not too tight); Put balance rod end back into its bearing race again tightening up only after making sure everything has been done properly); Finally tighten all other points which are connected using right torque figures supplied by manufacturer". In doing so, always ensure that the balljoint stud nut is tightened securely along with both the two balljoint-to-steering knuckle bolts. And also be sure that you installed another cotter pin in the balljoint stud nut as well.

    Q:
How to remove and replace the ball joint on a Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer
    A:
For 2006 and earlier models, remove the control arm and take it to an automotive machine shop to have the old one pressed out and the new one pressed in. For 2007 and later models, particularly on 2011 and later 1.BL models, the balljoint is not serviceable and must be replaced along with the control arm. Unscrew the fasteners and remove the balljoint from the steering knuckle, then installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the fasteners.
