The inner ends of the driveaxles are equipped with sliding constant velocity joints that allow both angular and axial motion. Automatic transaxle models and 2013 and later manual transaxle models use a "tri-pot" inner joint, while 2006 and earlier manual transaxle models use a "ball-and-cage" type inner joint. These inner joints can be disassembled and cleaned in the event of a boot failure, but if any parts are damaged, the joints must be replaced as a unit.

Swing the knuckle/hub assembly out (away from the vehicle) until the end of the driveaxle is free of the hub. If the driveaxle splines stick in the hub, tap on the end of the driveaxle with a plastic hammer. Carefully pry the inner CV joint from the transaxle using a large screwdriver or pry bar.
