Powertrain mounts seldom require attention, but broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately to prevent added strain on driveline components that may cause damage and wear. During the check, the engine or transaxle must be raised slightly to remove the weight from the mounts. Begin by raising the vehicle and securely supporting it on jackstands. Remove the engine splash shield if equipped, and position a jack under the engine oil pan, placing a large block of wood between the jack and the oil pan. Carefully raise the engine just enough to take the weight off the mounts, ensuring the wood block is not positioned under the oil drain plug. Inspect the mounts for any cracks, hardened rubber, or separation from the bushing in the center. Check for relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame, using a large screwdriver or pry bar to attempt to move the mounts. If any movement is noted, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. All engine mounts are replaced in the same manner; use the jack to securely support the weight of the engine and remove all force from the mount in question. Remove the bolts from both sides of the mount, then take out the mount. Finally, install the replacement mount and tighten all fasteners to the specified torque.

Insert a large pry bar or screwdriver between the rubber insulator of the mount and its bracket. Try to lever them apart; if the metal bracket moves away from the rubber insulator relatively easily, the insulator should be replaced. Excessive play between the insulator and the bracket indicates deterioration.

Remove the jack from below the transaxle, then install the splash shield and tire. Lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel lug nuts.
