    Q:
How to adjust the shift cable on Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer
    A:
Whenever the shift lever inside the vehicle is operated from Neutral to other positions, it should move with smoothness and precision, at the same time, the shift indicator should show the correct gear. Correction of the SAI: In case the indicator is out of position, the shift cable may be adjusted with the help of turning the lever to Neutral position, then the hood must be opened to dismantled the swivel nut of the manual shift lever placed on the transaxle while aligning the holes of the switch arm to the housing ones. For specific models, adjustments could be make at the shift lever on the transaxle through the adjustment nut which can be loosened then the cable can be pushed inward to eliminate the freeplay that may be present. Subsequently, engage the shift range lever on the transaxle into Neutral, then slightly unstowr the switch housing bolts, set the holes in the switch 'on top' the lever, and finally turn the swivel nut and switch bolts tightly. After that, inspect the transaxle operation in each of the shift lever positions It should be possible to hear the starter only when in the Park and Neutral positions. For replacement, unplug the cable from the shift lever and then use a pair of pliers to remove the large C-clips that holds the other end of the cable to the shift bracket. On some models, unscrew the nut and small metal clip that hold the cable in place in relation to the transaxle shift lever and housing bracket, or shove the cable off the cable bracket. Pull out the two shift cable grommet bolts that fix the grommet to the bulkhead; and unbend the shift cable from vehicle assembly. In term of installation, you have to feed the shift cable through the bulkhead opening then retract it in the console area then secure the C-clip into the bracket on the shift lever assembly Or, press the cable into the cable bracket on the transaxle in specific models. Fit the shift cable to the lever of the transaxle range sensor using the C-clip and put the grommet in its place; tighten the bolts. In the console area, tighten the screws of the shift position indicator assembly. Finally, correctly position the shift cable and then install the floor console with shifting the lever to and fro to the appropriate positions.

    Q:
How to handle the removal and installation of the shift cable on Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer
    A:
To dismantle the shift lever initially, you will have to take out the center console. Next, free the shift and select cable retainers, and both cables from the shift lever. Next unscrew the retaining bolts or nuts and pull off the shift lever assembly; likewise to put it in reverse. For the cables following steps were observed; Disconnect the shift and select cable from the shift lever assembly. On 1.4L models, unscrew the air filter housing. Next, you will have to remove the battery as well as the battery tray and then the PCM and bracket. On the 5-speed and 6-speed models you need to unbolt the cable end from the transaxle by first removing the retaining clips and finally the cotter pins. On any 7 speed models available, pop off the cable end mounting nut; then, extricate the cable from the bracket.
