Before removing the A/C accumulator, which is a reservoir and filter/dehumidifier for the refrigerant, it is necessary to have the system discharged and recovered by a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning shop. For 2006 and earlier models, the A/C accumulator is located on the right side of the condenser. To access it, remove the upper radiator grille by removing four screws. Unplug the electrical connector from the dual-pressure switch. Disconnect the two refrigerant lines from the A/C accumulator, as well as the lines from the condenser and the fitting at the right end of the condenser. Remove both lines and cap the open fittings immediately. Remove the bolt from the A/C accumulator mounting bracket and lift it out of the engine compartment. For 2007 and later models, remove the condenser. Use a hex wrench to remove the bottom cap from the A/C accumulator and then use needle-nose pliers to pull out the desiccant. Clean all components thoroughly and replace the desiccant with new material. Install a new O-ring and air conditioner oil to the bottom cap before installing it. When installing, make sure to install new O-rings on the refrigerant line fittings and lubricate them with clean refrigerant oil. If a new A/C accumulator is installed, add the correct amount and type of refrigerant oil to the system. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.
