    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and insatall the oil pump on V6 Hyundai Santa Fe? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the oil pump from 2.7L and 3.5L engines (2007 and earlier), first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, then remove the timing belt, oil filter, oil filter bracket with its gasket, crankshaft sprocket, oil pressure relief plug along with the spring and valve plunger, and finally the oil pump case from the front of the engine. Next, take off the cover from the oil pump and remove the pump rotors, ensuring to clean all traces of sealant and old gasket material from the pump body and engine block. For 3.3L and 3.5L engines (2010 and later), raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the oil pan, oil pump chain cover, and oil pump sprocket/chain assembly before taking out the oil pump, which is typically serviced as a unit. For inspection of the 2.7L and 3.5L engines (2007 and earlier), clean all components with solvent and inspect for wear and damage, checking the oil pressure relief valve sliding surface and valve spring, replacing them as a set if damaged, and measure clearances of various components with a feeler gauge. If any issues are suspected with the oil pump in the 3.3L and 3.5L engines (2010 and later), replace it with a new one. For installation, pry out the old crankshaft seal, apply grease or engine oil to the new seal, and drive it into place. Place the drive and driven rotors into the pump body, pack the pump cavities with petroleum jelly, and install the cover with a new gasket or RTV sealant, tightening screws in a criss-cross pattern to the specified torque. Lubricate the oil pressure relief valve with engine oil and install it in the pump body, clean the case gasket surfaces, and install the oil pump case with a new gasket, tightening the mounting bolts in a criss-cross pattern. Replace the oil pump O-ring and tighten the bolts, then replace the drive chain and sprocket, tightening the bolt to the specified torque. Finally, reinstall the remaining parts in reverse order, add oil, start the engine to check for oil pressure and leaks, and recheck the engine oil level.

    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pump on four cylinder Hyundai Santa Fe? Posted by Customer
    A:
For the 2007 and earlier models, start with the removal of timing belt/chain; secondly the oil pan to install oil pickup and gasket. Next, loosen and then take out the access plug that is found on the left side of the engine block and then with a screwdriver, make sure it penetrates the block at least 2 ½ inch to balance the shaft. Subsequently, remove the endplate assembly, the balance shaft and oil pump sprocket bolt, the front case or oil pump housing. Subsequently, the oil pump cover, as well as the oil pump gears, should be pulled out from the assembly. Scrape of all existing sealant and the old gasket material from the pump body and engine block to the extent possible and clean the mating surfaces with brake system cleaner. Check the oil pump for signs of wear or damage; if so or there is doubt regarding the object's condition one should fit a new one. Feelers can be slipped under the two pieces of metal to get a measurement with which to compare the clearances. When installing, pack the pump chamber with a little fresh clean engine oil that is poured into the suction side of the oil pump and while doing so, the drive gear shaft is rotated. Align the two timing marks of the oil pump gears to face each other in the same straight line. If required fit new oil seals, and ensure proper gaskets are used new ones should be fitted especially the O-ring of the front case. Loosening of bolts should be done successively in stages, crossing across each bolt to prevent them from warping, and then tighten the lower drive sprocket retaining bolt. Replace all worn out timing belts, fill the engine to the required level, engage the engine, examine oil pressure, and leakage. However, on the models which are manufactured from 2010 and onwards, the oil pump is integrated within the balance shaft module and they are sold together; any of the two cannot be replaced independently of the other.
