The right way to work on these 1995-2005 models is to start by loosening wheel nuts on the back wheels, lift the car up, and put jackstands under it at the proper spots off the rear suspension arms. Before lifting the car, set a floor jack under the rear suspension hub carrier. Keep the jack from lifting, as part of the hub carrier's and suspension arms' weight will go through it once you disconnect the strut. Unscrew the bolts and nuts that hold the strut to hub carrier in place, then lift off the trim panel above the upper mounting studs for the strut. Reach the luggage compartment inside the car and take off the trim panel over the bolts and nuts that hold the strut to the hub carrier. After you take out the nuts holding the three strut mounts on top, pull the strut off from the car. To install the strut, position the three upper studs where the body has holes to match up. Gently lift the jack and placeALIGN the three studs on the strut with the body mount holes. Screw and tighten all three upper strut nuts hard enough, then bolt and secure the strut to the hub carrier at the correct tightening force. End by putting on the wheel and letting the car lower to the ground while securely tightening the lug nuts to their required force.
