Cushioning vise jaws using rags or wooden blocks, remove the strut and spring assembly and mount them in a vise. Use a spring compressor that can be rented at most auto parts stores to reduce all pressure from the spring seat by compressing the spring just enough to do so. It is necessary to check this by wiggling the spring seat. While making use of large pliers on the spring seat in order to stop it from turning, unscrew piston rod nut. Now lift off insulator plus upper spring seat from damper shaft and inspect bearing in insulator replacing if required; then take away compressed spring assembly plus set it in secure place like a steel cabinet. Damper shaft must be fully extended while assembling strut starting from bump rubber coil spring and upper spring seat. Ensure that the hole flat side is installed correctly as per direction of installation so that there may not be any mix-up regarding position of the hole with respect to piston rod's flats after putting back together thereby leading into potential disastrous consequences.
