Some models are equipped with an anti-theft radio. Before performing a procedure that requires disconnecting the battery, make sure you have the activation code. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Remove the fuel tank filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Unplug the electrical connector from the fuel pump/fuel sending unit. Remove the fuel high pressure line flange bolt and loosen the fuel return hose clamp, then disconnect both the line and the hose. On 2011 and later models, disconnect the fuel pressure sensor connector and fuel vapor tube quick connector. Disconnect the fuel pressure hose and the return hose from the fuel pump. Use a siphoning kit to siphon the fuel into an approved gasoline container. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. On 2011 through 2016 models, locate the EVAP canister under the vehicle and disconnect the vapor tube quick-connector from the canister. On 2011 and later 1.8L engine models, remove the parking brake shield fasteners and the parking brake cable fasteners, then move the brake lines out of the way. Disconnect and lower the midsection of the exhaust system. Loosen the hose clamps and then disconnect the fuel filler neck hose and the vapor hoses from the fuel tank. Clearly label the two smaller hoses to ensure correct reassembly. Be sure to plug the hoses to prevent leakage and contamination of the fuel system. Note: On 2017 and later 2.0L models, remove the left side rear wheel to access the fuel filler hose connection. Remove the underbody splash shields and fuel tank shield, if equipped, then support the fuel tank with a floor jack. Place a wood block between the jack head and the fuel tank to protect the tank. Remove the fuel tank strap bolts. Swing the fuel tank retaining straps down until they are out of the way. Note: On 2011 and later models, the fuel tank must be tilted to allow enough clearance for the tank to be removed. Lower the tank enough to disconnect any remaining hoses or connectors. Remove the tank from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal.
