    The recommended deflection for belt tension depends on the distance between pulleys. It should be 1/4-inch for pulleys spaced 7-11 inches apart and 1/2-inch for pulleys spaced 12-16 inches apart. Belt tension can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the adjustment bolt at the alternator, tensioner pulley bolt, or through-bolt and adjuster lock bolt for the power steering pump belt. For water pump and alternator belts, use the alternator adjuster lock bolt and adjuster bolt.
