Check seat belts, buckles, latch plates and guide loops for obvious damage and signs of wear. The seat belt reminder light should come on when the key is turned to the Run or Start position, and a chime should also sound. Seat belts are designed to lock up during a sudden stop or impact, yet allow free movement during normal driving. Ensure the retractors return the belt against your chest while driving and rewind the belt fully when the buckle is unlatched. If any of these checks reveal problems with the seat belt system, replace parts as necessary.
