Always replace wheel cylinders in pairs. To begin, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, blocking the front wheels to prevent rolling. Remove the
Brake Shoe assembly. Clean all dirt and foreign material from around the wheel cylinder. Unscrew the
Brake Line fitting and then remove the two wheel cylinder bolts, using a flare-nut wrench if available to avoid rounding off the corners. Do not pull the brake line away from the wheel cylinder. Next, remove the wheel cylinder mounting bolts and detach the wheel cylinder from the brake backing plate, immediately plugging the brake line to prevent fluid loss and contamination. If the brake shoe linings are contaminated with brake fluid, install new brake shoes and clean the drums with brake system cleaner. For installation, apply RTV sealant to the mating surface of the wheel cylinder and the brake backing plate, place the cylinder in position, and connect the brake line without tightening the fitting completely yet. Install and tighten the mounting bolts, then securely tighten the brake line fitting. Reinstall the brake shoe assembly. Finally, bleed the brakes and check brake operation before driving the vehicle in traffic.
