Hyundai Excel Brake Proportioning Valve

The Hyundai Excel Brake Proportioning Valve protects the car by applying more hydraulic force to the front brakes and preventing the rear drums from locking during sudden stops. Mounted near the master cylinder, this Brake Proportioning Valve only reacts in cases of panic braking when rising fluid pressure pushes the spring and piston closed, causing a cut in the fluid supply to the rear circuit and maintaining stability. Every Hyundai version with front discs and rear drums uses the same hydraulic principle, but throughout the years, Excel models have been equipped with three styles of Brake Proportioning Valve: fixed, adjustable, and lever types, each with different ways in which drivers can tune rear line pressure. Stock Hyundai units typically have a fixed design with set front to rear bias for daily road use, but performance-minded Excel trims occasionally have an adjustable knob style allowing for custom balance, and some load-sensitive editions have a lever Brake Proportioning Valve attached to suspension movement so that pressure can be automatically shifted with cargo weight. A healthy Brake Proportioning Valve will prevent the rear wheels from skidding and will also assist the ABS function as well as keep the lightweight back end of the Hyundai Excel pointing straight so that if it becomes corroded or blocked and the piston freezes, it should prompt immediate replacement to maintain confident control.

Hyundai Excel Brake Proportioning Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Brake Proportioning Valve on Hyundai Excel?
    A:
For 1986-1999 models, use a flare nut wrench to unscrew the tube nuts at the Brake Lines' ends entering the Brake Proportioning Valve. Remove the lines, plug ends, remove the mounting nut, and remove the Brake Proportioning Valve. To install, position the Brake Proportioning Valve, insert brake lines, screw tube nuts by hand, install the mounting nut, and bleed the brake system. For 2000 and later models, unscrew brake lines and Brake Proportioning Valves from the master cylinder. Installation is the reverse of removal.
