Buy non-toxic coolant from an auto parts store and dispose of used coolant properly. Disconnect the battery cable and drain the cooling system. For certain models, remove the timing belt covers and the timing belt. Use a strap wrench to remove the water pump pulley. Remove the water pump fasteners and alternator brace. Pry off the water pump. For 2010 and later models, raise the vehicle and remove the drive belt. From underneath, remove the water pump pulley bolts, pulley, and inlet tube. For other models, loosen the water pump pulley bolts, remove the drive belt and pulley, and pry off the water pump. Clean the water pump and block, then install a new gasket and water pump. Reinstall the remaining parts, refill the cooling system, and check for leaks.
