How to replace the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on Hyundai Sonata?

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For 2005 and earlier models, remove the center console, disconnect the shift cable from the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers, disconnect the shift lock cable and the key lock cable, disconnect the lamp wiring connector, remove the two screws from the front of the shift knob, and then remove the shift knob while noting the direction of the push button and the spring behind it. If necessary, remove the shift position indicator, unbolt the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers assembly, and then remove it, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2006 and later models, unscrew and remove the shift knob, remove the center console, disconnect the electrical wiring from the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers assembly, carefully pry off the end of the shift cable from the lever and squeeze the two tabs to release it from its bracket, unbolt and remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers assembly, and installation is the reverse of removal.
