Hyundai Sonata Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor

The Hyundai Sonata Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor constantly tracks the temperature of the air as it enters your engine. As air is heated, it loses density and becomes less efficient. When air is cooled, it becomes denser and more efficient. In conjunction with the factory-specified mass air flow device, the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor measures incoming air and sends that information to the PCM to determine injector on time and ensure optimal combustion whether idling or while accelerating. When the sensing element becomes dirty and the reading drifts, the PCM can misjudge the mix, leaving the motor too rich or too lean. This shows up as hesitation, stalling, and a glowing check engine lamp. In recent Hyundai powertrains, the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor works with a familiar MAF element, and the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor can also be fooled by leaks between the air inlet and the cylinders as this amount of air is unmeasured. Consequently, this forces a lean state. Through the generations of Sonata, the basic electric thermistor style has been kept consistent so the driver will never encounter competing designs. However, keeping the intake path clean and sealed, every Hyundai Sonata Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor continues to protect performance and mileage while protecting Hyundai fuel economy and keeping the spirited feel of a Sonata intact.

Hyundai Sonata Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disconnect and remove the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor, MAP Sensor, and Mass Air Flow Sensor on Hyundai Sonata?
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For 2010 and earlier models, the MAF/Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor is located in the air inlet duct between the air filter assembly and the throttle body. Disconnect the electrical connector from the MAF sensor, loosen the hose clamps, and remove the MAF sensor from the air intake ducts, handling it carefully. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2011 and later models with 2.0L engines, there are two MAP/IMT sensors; the #1 sensor is on the front of the intake manifold surge tank and the #2 sensor is on the intercooler outlet pipe. Disconnect the electrical connector from the MAP sensor, remove the mounting bolts, and take out the sensor, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2.4L engines, the MAP/IMT sensor is located on the front of the intake manifold surge tank. Disconnect the electrical connector from the MAP sensor, remove the mounting bolt, and take out the sensor from the intake manifold, with installation being the reverse of removal.
