Carefully inspect the manifold(s) and fasteners for cracks and damage.

Position a new gasket over the cylinder head studs, noting any directional marks or arrows on the gasket that may be present.

The catalytic converter is an emission control device installed in the exhaust system that reduces pollutants from the exhaust gas stream. There are two types of converters: the oxidation catalyst, which reduces hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO), and the reduction catalyst, which lowers the levels of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). These two types are combined into a three-way catalyst that reduces all three pollutants.
