  Q: How are the Exhaust Valve and Intake Valve clearances checked and adjusted on Hyundai Accent?

  You adjust the valve clearances with the engine warm. Remove air cleaner housing. Remove rocker arm cover. Bring number 1 piston to top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. The rocker arms of cylinder one should be loose and the lobes of its camshaft should face away from the rocker arms. In this position, crankshaft valves marked A can be checked and altered as necessary. First check and adjust jet valve clearance each time before adjusting intake valve clearance is done. The screws that adjust intake valve and jet valve are found on a common rocker arm Turn out intake adjusting screw two full turns then loosen locknut on jet adjusting screw On models so equipped turn jet adjusting screw counterclockwise insert proper thickness feeler gauge between stem and adjusting screw Carefully tighten adjusting screw until slight resistance is felt against feeler gauge upon its removal from between the stem and adjusting screw On models so equipped avoid forcing open the jet since it has rather weak springs If difficult to turn, pay extra attention when manipulating adjustment bolt Hold a screwdriver onto an adjustment bolt while tightening locking nut Make sure it has not changed yet Check once more to ensure no change occurs in these measurements Unfasten locking nut located at exhaust side of adjustable scissor Adjusting bolt should be turned counter clockwise and rod inserted into gap between guide hole middle part and upper spring seat Latch onto an adjustment bolt with a flat head driver while securing fastening nut Inspect one more time to confirm if any changes have happened Rotate crankshaft one complete revolution until No4 piston reaches TDC on the compression stroke This means that No4 cylinder rockers are loose with cam's lobe pointing away from them Meanwhile, set B labeled valves correctly back in place Put back rocker cover as well as air cleaner assembly.
