Hyundai Accent Relay Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you test and replace defective relays in a Hyundai Accent?
A: In the vehicle various electrical accessories are used that employ relays to send electrical signals to various components; if the relay is bad the component does not work. Some types of relays are located in several areas under the dash or near certain components or are located in the engine compartment for easy replacement. If the defect is suspected to be originating from a faulty relay then such can be changed and subjected to testing. From the circuit's wiring diagram, one is advised to understand the right connections to make when testing the relay. In most relays, two terminal belong to the control circuit and are connected to the coil of the relay, whereas the other terminals are of the power circuit, which is connected between two sections of the relay whenever the control circuit is energized. Many relays are labeled to enable one tell the terminal of the control circuit and that of the power circuit. To check, connect an ohmmeter probe to power circuit terminals, then connect one of the control circuit terminals to the positive battery terminal using a fused jumper wire and the other to ground using another jumper wire. The relay should make a clicking sound, and continuity will be displayed on the meter; if it does not, then swap the jumper wires. Otherwise if the relay did not pass through the test, probably it's time to take it out.
