Remove the lower panel from under the driver's side of the dash and disconnect the electrical connector to the brake light switch. For 2010 and earlier 1.BL models and all 2012 and earlier 2.0L models, the brake light switch is located on a bracket at the top of the
Brake Pedal. Loosen the locknut and unscrew the switch from the pedal bracket, with installation being the reverse of removal. Check and, if necessary, adjust brake pedal height, then loosen the switch locknut and adjust the switch so that the pedal has freeplay. Plug the electrical connector into the switch, ensuring the brake lights come on when the pedal is depressed and go off when released; repeat the adjustment procedure if necessary. For 2011 and later 1.BL models and all 2013 and later models, pull the locking plate tab outwards, rotate the switch 1/4-turn (45-degrees), and pull the switch out of the bracket. Hold the brake pedal arm firmly, insert the brake switch into the bracket until seated, rotate the switch 1/4-turn (45-degrees), and push the locking plate into place before connecting the electrical connector to the switch, with installation being the reverse of removal.
