The dashboard light control unit is installed on the left side of the center instrumental panel molding, near the steering wheel, and contains a rheostat for changing the illumination of the instrumental panel bulbs; if the illumination intensity does not change, the light control switch must be replaced. For models prior to 2000 one could pull out the light control unit by wedging a screwdriver, for 2001- 2006 models the center bezel needs to be unscrewed, then the connector has to be unplugged, and then one can remove the switch. To reach the switch in the 2007 to 2010 models, the switch assembly is unbolted from the instrument panel while in the 2011 and later models, the instrument panel end caps are unscrewed and the driver's side trim panel needs to be removed to gain access to the switch. A tad bit bigger but also more discrete; the hazard switch is marked by a triangle and can only be reached after the removal of the center instrument panel trim bezel. Rear defogger switch of the air control conditioner or is located in the back of the front passenger's instrument panel center bezel in the 2004 and subsequent models, the switch is fixed to the right side and connected to the air conditioner control button, to remove it and replace it, the center bezel must be taken off and dismantled. The rear wiper/washer switch is in the left side of the instrument panel in station wagons, and in 2013 and later GT models its functionality is incorporated into that of the main wiper button; to remove it, the switch head must be teased out and the electrical connector unplugged. Some of the switch pod housing configurations are the Electronic Stability Control Off switch and the rheostat Switch; any fault in any of the switch pod elements means replacement of the entire pod. To reach the switch pod, the negative battery terminal cable needs to be disconnected, the knee bolster needs to be unbolted and the pod and mounting screws needs to come out to separate the pod from the instrument panel, in addition to the electrical connectors needs to be disconnected while engaging the pod, and the re-engagement is done by following the above procedure in reverse order.
