To remove the airbag module, park the vehicle with the front wheels straight ahead, disconnect the negative battery terminal followed by the positive terminal, and wait at least two minutes. For models from 2006 and earlier, remove the airbag module nuts from the steering wheel, while for 2007 to 2010 models, remove the Torx-head screws on each side of the steering wheel. For 2011 and later models, use a small blade screwdriver to depress the stop-pins in the guide holes at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions to release the airbag module. Unplug the airbag module connector and lift the module off the steering wheel. Next, remove the steering wheel retaining nut and mark the relationship of the steering wheel to the steering shaft. Use a steering wheel puller to separate the steering wheel from the shaft, ensuring that the electrical leads for the airbag module and cruise control system do not snag. When installing, ensure the clockspring is centered with the arrow pointing up; if it was rotated, recenter it by adjusting the hub accordingly. Pull the electrical leads through the steering wheel, install the wheel aligning the matchmarks, tighten the retaining nut, connect the airbag electrical connectors, and install the airbag module with the mounting nuts/bolts. Finally, verify the airbag circuit by turning the ignition key to the On position, ensuring the "AIR BAG" warning light illuminates for about seven seconds before turning off.
