For the 1986 through 1989 models, the procedure starts with lifting and safely supporting the vehicle on jack stands. This is done by removing the bolts and clamps holding the Sway Bar Kit to the lower arm, and inspection of the bushings, the bar and the bolts. Defective parts are removed and new bushings installed in such a manner that the slotted part lies in the direction of the body mounting surface prior to their re-insertion. For 1990 through 1999 models, the front wheels are then unbolted by loosening the lugnuts and then the tie-rod end balljoint is disonnected. The upper rear roll stopper is removed from the rear engine mounting bracket, and the Sway Bar Kit is disconnected from the control arms by unscrewing locknuts on the upset part of the stabilizer bar link connecting rod. The bolts of the bushing clamp of the Sway Bar Kit are loosened, and the Sway Bar Kit is pulled out through the access holes for the steering gear. Installation of these components is done in the opposite direction to the removal process so that bolts and clamps are tightened securely. 2000 through 2005 models have the upper and lower link ball stud nuts which are loosened to separate the stabilizer bar links while the bushing clamp bolts as well as the rear roll stopper are also removed. The Sway Bar Kit was then detached and other components were checked; those that have been damaged were repaired or changed. Before tightening, the bushing clamps are in the proper location on the Sway Bar Kit, and the configuration is inverted. Last but not least, since 2006 and beyond, the front wheels are also detached and the links on Sway Bar Kit are also disconnected. The tie-rod ends are also removed from the
Steering Knuckles, and power steering fluid is discharged before unbolting the power steering pressure line banjo bolt and the
Steering Shaft from the steering gear pinion. Engine support and subframe detachment are required; the bolts holding the stabilizer bar bushing clamp and the Sway Bar Kit must be detached. After component inspection, bushings are restored to the Sway Bar Kit location, clamps and brackets are fitted and the Sway Bar Kit is brought back into position with the subframe and tightened accordingly.
