The procedure applies only to 2001 through 2006 models that are equipped with an external fuel filter. Later models use a fuel filter that is part of the fuel pump assembly. First, relieve the fuel system pressure, then disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the rear of the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. The fuel filter is mounted on a frame rail, near the left front corner of the fuel tank. Remove the fitting nuts from the fuel lines. Remove the bolt securing the filter mounting strap, then remove the filter. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Use new sealing washers and tighten the fitting nuts. Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition key to the On position, then check for leaks.
