Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Detach the electrical connectors from the starter/solenoid assembly. Remove the starter heat shield if equipped. The starter is covered with a heat shield; on some models the shield may be disconnected and moved aside - on others the exhaust must be lowered to allow it to be removed. On some V6 models, it may be necessary to unbolt the front section of the exhaust system from the exhaust manifolds, disconnect the front exhaust system hanger, and lower the exhaust pipes for access. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts and take out the starter. The starter is retained by two bolts - make sure the battery and the starter wiring are disconnected before removing it. Installation is the reverse of removal.
