How to remove and install a starter motor on Hyundai Accent?

To determine if the engine is a starter, some vehicles will require removing the exhaust pipe(s) or frame cross member. There may be situations where even detaching engine mounts and raising it slightly would make removal of a starter easier. Battery cable from negative terminal should be disconnected. On fuel-injected models, remove the air cleaner assembly. For those with 1990 and 1994 designs, remove Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve if it is present. Disconnect vehicle speedometer cable from transaxle on 1990 through 1999 models and set it aside. The shift cable must be disconnected in some cases as well.
