The checking procedure is available only for the models prior to 2006 since the further models imply special equipment and checking procedures. The knock sensor of 2006 and older models is found on the front side of the engine cylinder block, by the oil pan while for 2007 and new model, the knock sensor is placed at the upper rear side of the engine. To diagnose the sensor, first you have to ensure the electrical connection to the knock sensor is disconnected and then apply an ohmmeter to choose the attendance of the knock sensor resistance. For the models ranging from 1996 to 2000, connect the multimeter to terminals 2 and 3 of the sensor side of the connector; for the models from 2001 onward, connect the multimeter to the two terminals of the knock sensor connector. If the measured resistance is lower than the specified resistance, failure is presumed to be related to the knock sensor and the part needs to be changed. This article specifies the procedures to be followed to remove the sensor; these include; disconnecting their electrical connection, uninstalling the intake manifold, and dismantling the engine cylinder block, the knock sensor is held in place by a single bolt which you have to unscrew to release the sensor. Installation on the other hand is done in the reverse order to the way of removal.
